Last day to add a class is September 16th.

49th Annual United State Senate Youth Scholarship Program is inviting juniors and seniors, who are currently class or club officers, from each high school to participate in the US State Senate Youth scholarship program. Each state selects two students to represent their state for a week of special activities in Washington, DC, where the students intereact with elected officials and with people in top government positions. Each student selected will also be awarded a $5,000 scholarship. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will use a three-phase screening process, including a test, an essay and an interview, to select the two student representatives and two alternates. Please let Mrs. Corry know if you are interested by September 16, 2010. Deadline for this Scholarship is September 21, 2010.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: Please check out the "College Visits" calendar to view the colleges and universities who will be presenting in the BHS Guidance Office this year. You must sign up for the presentation in the Guidance Office before the visit to pick up a pass. We are adding new schools every day so keep checking this web link for the schools you are interested in.

BHS and Barrington Community School are co-sponsoring a number of programs designed for the college-bound student, including "Preparing for the SAT", an 8 week course designed to prepare students for the November 6th exam. The Tuesday evening course, which begins Sept. 14th will consist of eight 2-hour classes. Fee is $225

Also offered will be Preparing for the PSAT, a 3-session course designed to prepare students for the October 16th exam at the high school. This course will meet on Wed. evenings, Sept. 29 through Oct. 13th from 7:00-9:00 pm at Barrington High School. Fee is $75.

Also, Writing your College Application Essay will be held on Wed., Sept. 22nd from 7:00-8:30 pm at BHS. The fee is $15 for students, $20 for adults. Please sign up for any of these courses with the Barrington Community School

College Fair at McCoy Stadium Please note the date has changed to Wednesday, September 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Please mark your calendar now for this event. They are expecting approximately 100 colleges/universities to be in attendance. Fair attendees and students will have access to areas in the stadium that are usually off-limits to the public, such as the batting cages, locker rooms and will be able to view impressive Paw Sox memorabilia. If you have any questions please call the College Planning Center at 401-475-3544.

PSAT Exam Date Info: Counselors will visit classes early in the school year in order to provide information and materials regarding the PSAT’s. Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 16, 2010. The PSAT practice booklets will be distributed during Advisory period. Additionally, you may also want to consider the three-session preparation course offered by the Community School. For information, you can call them at 245-0432. See enclosed flyer. Sign-ups for the PSAT will also be held during Advisory time as well as in the Guidance office. Please bring with you on the day of the test a check in the amount of $25 made payable to: Barrington High School PSAT. Be sure to put student name in the memo portion of the check. Free SAT preparation materials are offered at collegeboard.com.

If you are applying to colleges who do not use the Common Application please fill out a Transcript Request Form either online or pick up one in the Guidance Office and return it to Guidance with the appropriate school report forms. Make sure when filling out the Common Application that you list your Guidance Counselor as well as his/her correct email address. Please note: We do not send transcripts to coaches. You may pick up an unofficial copy of your transcript and send/deliver it to the coach/coaches yourself.
- RI Foundation has scholarships available that can be downloaded from their website. Also, check the Scholarship Page periodically as we update scholarships when we receive them. Also, please check the College Open Houses & Career Info Sessions for listings of upcoming career expos as well as the Summer Programs listings.
- Working Papers information from the RI Dept. of Child Labor : The employer should provide The Intent to Employ Minor form (or you can dowload it) which must be signed by the employer and child's guardian. If your child will be working in Massachusetts you should pick up the forms at the Seekonk School Administration Bldg.
